How to Encrypt Files and Folders Using BestCrypt Data privacy is more important today than ever before. Securing your sensitive files from unauthorized access is a crucial step in protecting your personal and professional information. BestCrypt, developed by Jetico, is a powerful commercial encryption tool that allows you to store encrypted data in virtual containers. These containers behave like normal drives when opened but remain completely unreadable when closed.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to encrypt your files and folders using BestCrypt. Step 1: Download and Install BestCrypt Visit the official Jetico website.

Download the latest version of BestCrypt compatible with your operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux). Run the installer and follow the on-screen prompts.

Restart your computer if prompted to complete the driver installation. Step 2: Create a New Encrypted Container

BestCrypt stores your encrypted files inside a secure file called a container. Open the BestCrypt Control Panel. Click on the Container menu at the top and select New.

Choose a location on your hard drive to save the container file, give it a name, and click Save. Step 3: Configure Container Settings

A customization window will appear where you must define the size and security level of your container.

Size: Specify how much storage space you want to allocate to this container (e.g., 5 GB or 50 GB). Ensure you have enough free space on your physical drive.

Encryption Algorithm: Select an encryption standard. AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) with a 256-bit key is recommended for maximum security.

Encryption Mode: Leave this on the default setting (usually XTS or LRW) unless you have specific advanced requirements. Click Next. Step 4: Set a Strong Password

Your password is the only key to your data. If you lose it, your files cannot be recovered.

Enter a long, complex password mixing uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special symbols. Re-enter the password to confirm it.

Move your mouse randomly inside the designated box if prompted. BestCrypt uses this movement to generate truly random numbers for encryption keys.

Click OK to create the container. BestCrypt will now format the virtual drive. Step 5: Mount the Container and Add Your Files

To use your new encrypted space, you must “mount” it so it appears as a regular drive letter on your computer.

In the BestCrypt Control Panel, locate your newly created container. Right-click the container and select Mount.

Enter your password and choose an available drive letter (like X: or Z:).

Click OK. The container will now open in File Explorer just like a USB flash drive.

Drag and drop the files and folders you want to protect into this drive. They are encrypted automatically on the fly. Step 6: Unmount the Container to Lock Your Data

Once you are finished working with your files, you must lock the container to keep them safe.

Go back to the BestCrypt Control Panel or right-click the virtual drive letter in File Explorer. Select Dismount (or Dismount All).

The drive letter will disappear, and your files will be safely locked inside the encrypted container file, completely hidden from prying eyes.
